about

Inherent to the coast is an interplay between worlds, both magical and mundane, where boundaries of land and sea flow and shift. Within ceaseless tidal cycles, ecosystems host an ever adapting array of life, new configurations coalesce and are washed away, all within a singular moment. It is here where a profound beauty of the coast lies: as liminal space where comfort resides in the entwined nature of erosion and renewal.

"Coastal Studies" is an album borne from reflections upon these coastal dynamics, channeled through Jon Hammond's memories of his formative years living on the Wirral Peninsula. These eight tracks see Hammond striving to express the impermanence integral to these cycles, and the points of hope and longing within them. With the solar glow of lush synthesizers, a digital mist of abstracted field recordings, and fragments of melody flickering like reflections on the surface, a sonic environment forms to serve as both an escape from and appreciation of our ever changing reality.
